Take care of your baby at home

  • No need to worry if your baby rejects their meal for a few days, they will get on the meal again after they feel better.

  • Feed your baby small frequent meals to drink when awake. Like a small amount of water every 15 minutes. This eating way will help ease the sore throat and replace the amount of fluid your baby lost during the day.

  • Providing your baby with enough fluid is vital when they are in their infant stage, breast or formula milk, and rehydration fluids like electrolytes are suitable for the demands.

  • Allowing your baby to rest.

  • Clean your baby’s nose in case of blockage, healthy noses are better than blocked ones. You could clean them with saline nasal drops.

  • Do not give your child aspirin. Instead, give them paracetamol or ibuprofen for pain or when your baby is irritable/lethargic. Be sure to carefully check the labels, instructions, and contraindications before giving them to your child. Make sure not to overdose your child with paracetamol or ibuprofen when you already gave it to your child earlier and then shove them more with cough or cold and flu medicines.

  • Do not try using paracetamol and ibuprofen to relieve your baby’s fever. They need the fever as it will make the body feel better by killing off the viruses.

  • Do not believe in remedies.

  • Viral illnesses are common among children and could easily spread from baby to baby in areas such as kindergarten or school.

  • It is okay for your baby to have up to 12 viral infections a year during their first few years.

  • Antibiotics are not the cure for everything, stop asking for them every time your baby is ill. The best way is to let the baby rest at home.
